Change Text Size in the browser

Changing the text size or colors in your web browser can make pages more accessible. To set text and color preferences in Internet Explorer and Firefox, you can do the following:

Keyboard Shortcuts

These shortcuts will temporarily resize website text in Internet Explorer and Firefox.

  1. Press the Ctrl key (or Cmd on a MAC).
  2. While pressing Ctrl, click the plus key (+) to make text larger. Press the minus key (-) to make text smaller.

Resize Text in Internet Explorer

These settings will change the text size in Internet Explorer for all websites; they can be reset at any time.

  1. At the top of the browser, click Page, then Zoom.
  2. The Zoom menu lists percentages for increasing or decreasing the text. Select a percentage to change text size.
  3. Internet Explorer will now use the text size you selected on all websites. Returning to the Zoom menu and clicking 100% will reset Internet Explorer to use the website's default text size.

Resize Text in Firefox

These settings will change the text size in Firefox for all websites; they can be reset at any time.

  1. At the top of the browser, click Tools, then Options. A box will pop up.
  2. Click the Content tab.
  3. Under the Fonts and Colors heading, click the Advanced button. A box will pop up.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Allow pages to choose their own fonts.
  5. Change font size using the Size drop-down menus. You can also change the fonts used on websites.
  6. Click OK to close the fonts box.
  7. Click OK to close the Options box.
  8. To turn off custom font settings, return to Tools > Options > Content > Fonts & Colors > Advanced and check the Allow pages to choose their own fonts box.
